Can I get a receipt for AI work after the fact?
No. A receipt commits to a step's saved result at the moment it was saved, which is what makes it evidence. A receipt manufactured later would commit to nothing but its own manufacture date. What you can build after the fact is an honest, labelled summary record of the work, and a recording habit that starts with the next job.
This page exists because the question deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pivot. Receipts derive their entire value from being contemporaneous: the result was fixed in the record when the step ran, before anyone knew which steps would matter. Any system willing to mint one afterwards is selling a document that proves a document was made, and a checker who discovers that once will never trust the format again, including yours.
The after-the-fact artefact that does help is the labelled summary record: assemble the work's surviving evidence (outputs, files, messages, platform histories) into one job record, marked as assembled after the fact, with the assembly date on it and the gaps named. It will not recompute like a receipt, and it should not pretend to. In negotiations and reviews it still outperforms scattered files, because it is organised, dated, and candid about its own nature.
Then the real fix, which is cheap and permanent: route the work through the recording connection from now on. Every professional who keeps records has a date before which their records are summaries and after which they are receipts. The quality of your practice is measured by how long ago that date is.
Checklist: the honest after-the-fact record
1. Gather: outputs and files as delivered, the message thread, any platform histories. 2. Assemble: one record per job, items in chronological order. 3. Label: "Assembled on [date] from surviving materials; the work was not recorded at execution." on the record itself. 4. Name the gaps: which steps have no surviving evidence. 5. Never: call it a receipt, backdate any item, or let a summary wear a receipt's language. 6. Forward fix: the next job runs through the connection from step one.
Worked example
The contrast is visible in any true record: the steps on https://zambo.dev/handover/45434a17-4afc-486a-9646-e689bcee4297 were saved as the work ran, which is why its receipts recompute at the verify page. An after-the-fact record for the same job would be a respectable summary, and still a different species of object. Knowing the difference is the literacy this page teaches.
Frequently asked questions
Another tool offered to generate receipts for my past work. Should I?
Ask what the receipt commits to and when the commitment was made. If the answer involves creating the commitment now for work done then, the artefact is a certificate about your claim, not a receipt for the work, and presenting it as the latter is a risk to you, not only to the tool.
Is a labelled summary record worth anything in a dispute?
Yes, the way any organised, contemporaneous-ish file is worth more than fragments: it shows good faith, organises what exists, and admits its limits. It will lose to a real receipt on the other side, which is the honest hierarchy.
How do I stop needing this page?
One routing decision: client and consequential work runs through the connection by default. From that date forward, every job mints its receipts during the work, and this question retires itself.
