Which package do I want?

Package warning: Do not use npm install zambo as the JavaScript SDK. The current zambo package publishes a command-line executable; for a JavaScript app or agent, use the zambo-ai SDK. They are different integration paths.

PyPI also currently lists openai-agents-zambo. Both OpenAI Agents packages are live, with different documented import/API names; neither PyPI project metadata currently marks one as a deprecated alias or says it supersedes the other. Keep existing installs unchanged.

One hosted connection

Keep one Zambo MCP connection. Use this URL only when your client asks for a connector address.

https://zambo.dev/mcp

Default surface: 19 tools. Find all 138 in the full catalog at https://zambo.dev/mcp?full=true or send the X-Zambo-Surface: full header.

Pick your client

Each client leads with its quickest action: a link that opens the app where the app supports one, otherwise a paste step. An animated guide and a connector URL fallback follow.

Generic MCP client

Install Zambo in any MCP client

Copies the hosted connector URL for your client.

Your MCP client
Open connector settings
Add the hosted URL
Ask your AI to use Zambo

Open your client's connector settings, add the hosted URL, and ask your AI to confirm the connection.

Fallback: Use https://zambo.dev/mcp as the remote MCP server URL.
Send a Day Pass key (X-Zambo-Key)

MCP itself does not guarantee that every client can add custom HTTP headers. If yours supports header configuration, add X-Zambo-Key with your key in its private local settings; never commit it. Otherwise, use this direct API request. It prompts for the key without putting it in shell history, then clears the temporary environment value.

read -rsp 'Day Pass key: ' ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY; echo
  curl -i -X POST https://zambo.dev/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H "X-Zambo-Key: ${ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY}" \
  --data '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":"key-test","method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"zambo_universal","arguments":{"need":"What is the current price of Bitcoin in USD?"}}}'
unset ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY

Inspect the response for the result and a verifiable receipt URL.

Claude Desktop

Connect Zambo from Claude Desktop

Choose either setup path. The native remote connector is the simplest free path: add https://zambo.dev/mcp in your Claude account under Settings → Connectors (or ask your organization owner to add it). Anthropic's current flow does not document a user-supplied arbitrary X-Zambo-Key header, so it does not carry a Day Pass key.

For a paid Day Pass key, use the local stdio bridge below. Official Claude remote connector guide · Official Claude Desktop local MCP guide · Third-party mcp-remote custom-header docs.

Day Pass setup: create a private header file

The bridge reads one header per line from a local file. Use an absolute file path in Claude's config; protect the file so only your account can read it. Do not put the key in the config JSON, command arguments, shell history, or this webpage.

macOS/Linux example: this prompts without echoing the key or adding it to shell history, creates a private directory/file, then clears the temporary shell variable:

mkdir -p "$HOME/.config/zambo" && chmod 700 "$HOME/.config/zambo"
umask 077
read -rsp 'Day Pass key: ' ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY; echo
printf 'X-Zambo-Key: %s\n' "$ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY" > "$HOME/.config/zambo/headers.txt"
chmod 600 "$HOME/.config/zambo/headers.txt"
unset ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY

The file content is exactly one header line:

X-Zambo-Key: YOUR_DAY_PASS_KEY

On Windows, create the same one-line file at a private absolute path, restrict its file permissions to your Windows account, and use a path without spaces in the config (the mcp-remote docs note an argument-parsing issue for Claude Desktop on Windows).

Copy working claude_desktop_config.json

This local MCP entry invokes the third-party mcp-remote bridge through npx. Replace only the header-file path with its absolute path on your computer. The bridge keeps the secret out of process arguments and fails closed if that file cannot be read. Install/trust the third-party package before enabling this config.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "zambo": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://zambo.dev/mcp",
        "--header-file",
        "/absolute/path/to/headers.txt"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Direct API fallback

If the local bridge cannot be used, this sends a direct call with the key prompted at runtime and then clears the temporary shell value.

read -rsp 'Day Pass key: ' ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY; echo
  curl -i -X POST https://zambo.dev/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H "X-Zambo-Key: ${ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY}" \
  --data '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":"claude-desktop-key-test","method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"zambo_universal","arguments":{"need":"What is the current price of Bitcoin in USD?"}}}'
unset ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY

Look for the tool result and its verifiable /run/ receipt URL.

ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT or call the API directly

Easiest path: open the Zambo GPT. No terminal needed.

For technical users: the direct curl request is further down.

ChatGPT's developer-mode MCP app can connect to a remote server at https://zambo.dev/mcp. OpenAI documents No Authentication, OAuth, and Mixed Authentication for these apps, but not a custom arbitrary request-header field for a user-provided X-Zambo-Key. The no-key/free path may work through a supported connector; a Day Pass key cannot be reliably injected there.

For a Day Pass key: Use the direct API request below, or another MCP client whose current docs explicitly support custom HTTP headers. ChatGPT's custom connector URL alone does not send X-Zambo-Key.

Official ChatGPT MCP connection guide

Direct API / curl fallback with X-Zambo-Key

This prompts for the key without placing it in shell history, then removes it from the shell environment. The key is not saved by this page.

read -rsp 'Day Pass key: ' ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY; echo
  curl -i -X POST https://zambo.dev/mcp \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -H "X-Zambo-Key: ${ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY}" \
  --data '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":"chatgpt-key-test","method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"zambo_universal","arguments":{"need":"What is the current price of Bitcoin in USD?"}}}'
unset ZAMBO_DAY_PASS_KEY

Look for the tool result and its verifiable /run/ receipt URL.
